General Asphalt Driveway Is Constructed of a Gravel Base then Paved with Asphalt.
While most Town around DuPage County and North West Cook County specifications are the same some do vary so do check with you towns building department for their codes.
Gravel Base Thickness are Mostly 6" ( some do Require 8" but only if you adding on a New area )
Asphalt Thickness is 2" of Compacted Hot Mix Asphalt but today we mostly Pave with 3" of asphalt then Compacted it Down to on average 2.5" to 2.7".
As thickness is Important Compaction Rate of the Asphalt is as much if not more important, for a strong lasting Driveway.
But in still the average life of a Asphalt Driveway will Last 15 to 25 years, sometimes Longer depending on you tolerance level to cracking
